Great while it lasted... Jul 30, 2007
By E. Stinson Purchased this system back in June of 06. It worked great for exactly 12.5 months. 2 weeks outside of the 1 year warranty period it started eating DVDS. I called JVC customer service and they told me they would do me a favor and provide free parts, but I would need to pay for labor. So I called their recommended repair facility which told me labor fees START at $150.00! That doesn't sound like such a good deal to me. Is it just me, or does anyone else out there remember a time when audio components lasted YEARS - not MONTHS? So, looks like this cute little box is now going in the trash - I'll save the speakers at least - and I'll add JVC to my "Do Not Buy" list. My recommendation - stay away from this stereo unless you like the idea of disposable audio components - it was a costly lesson for me. Come on JVC - you USED to make quality stuff!

it'd be 5 stars if it was cheaper... Jan 11, 2008
By Alain ...Because I'm very happy with this baby it does everything you'd want a stereo to do. 1.Can be plug into your tv and play your dvds 2.Can be plug via usb into ur pc (this was the feature that made buy this thing, now I can listen to my music through it) 3.Plays mp3 format cds 4.Obviously it plays regular cds 5.You can plug your mp3 in it (I have 30 gbs creative zen, dont know if ipod would work, but Im guessing it will) 6.I've even plug my ps3 on it to get a great sound while I play call of duty 4 :D
well those are pretty much its cool features.
Now the only thing I dislike about it is its sound, its speakers are not that good in my opinion the highs sound way to high and yes u can reduce it but still im not so please with it then again I'm very anal about sound... so I've plug my old stereo speakers into it plus the 2 that came with it, so I have 4 speakers and it sounds great, but my old speakers are way too old, that the bass when it is too high they ramble so Im planning in buying a new set of speakers for it and I bet I'll be happier than ever

Loud in all the wrong ways Feb 12, 2008

Don't buy this stereo if you ever plan on listening to music at a moderate to low setting. The DVD/CD motor is so noisy that it rivals the racket your old walkman cassette player made. All joking aside, I am pretty upset that I spent good money on a new stereo that is extremely annoying to listen to. Of course, returning electronic items bought online is like trying to get that tattoo of your ex-girlfriend's name removed. I shouldn't have gone out with JVC in the first place.

Great low-cost high output system for dorm or school class Apr 14, 2007

Was purchased for school room use - very good output - DVD audio has adjustable output to make it louder on soft audio playing movies - excellent feature for classroom - very good audio output - fair/good speakers - not full theater but excellent for stereo output with good bass for three piece system - best bookshelf system at this price point. If this is for a theater consider using 5 piece system but first check if it is load enough. Only drawback is weight - the unit is heavy so you need to put it on a cart for school.
O.K., but... Mar 08, 2009
By eschorn This had great sound, but I experienced two things that other reviewers cited:
- The motor noise was annoyingly loud - The changer started eating CDs/DVDs, then broke entirely
I think I'm done with changers completely
