Not a bright as expected Dec 12, 2007
By Cracker5 This bulb has good color, but is definitely not equal to 60-150W, as described. There is no discernable difference between the second and third levels. FOLLOWUP: Lasted less than a year, not even functioning three ways most of the time, then just stopped functioning periodically. A real ripoff!

A Percentage Of The Power Use, Better Light, And Easier Reading Aug 09, 2011
By Nom De Amazon Here

When I moved our household to Verilux lighting my 'beloved' was initially unhappy. She found the light too bright, too wide in the spectrum department, and hard to handle. That was the initial reaction. Three or four days later she didn't notice it anymore--and in the coming month we'd go somewhere that had halogen or incandescent or (much worse) WARM CFL's that flickered and she hated the way it made her clothing colors looked, and made food look, and generally the way in which it behaved with the environs.
The kicker was that as soon as she saw our power bill drop by 21 percent as a result of changing the light bulbs, she hasn't looked back.
I personally love them for cooking, reading, and living around the household--in the dead of winter it is sunny and nice indoors.
I couldn't ask for a better product... and more? We had a few fail early on... and Verilux replaced them on the spot. That is good customer service. Customer service that ranks with L.L. Bean, Craftsman, and so on--is wonderful by me.
Thank you Verilux!!!
I am a very happy customer and just got some for my sister as gifts.

Know what you are getting. Jan 11, 2008

"I am out to prove I have nothing to prove!"
First, I agree with the other reviewer that there is no difference between the middle and the highest levels. You really see no difference.
Second, these are definitely NOT soft white. They have a real "silver" (for lack of a better color to describe it) tone to them where soft white will have more of a yellow tone to them.
I put two of these in the lamps next to my bed and I couldn't take the color of them after one night and replaced them. There is really nothing soft about the light they produce. Perhaps they would look ok in an office setting if used during the day, but in my opinion they are not appropriate (based on what I am used to) for lighting up your home at night.
They fit fine in the lamps. They are roughly the same size as a typical 3-way bulb.

harsh fluorescent light Jul 11, 2010
By Richard C. Myers This bulb puts off the worst fluorescent light I think I've seen. I only hope that I am able to return it, because there is no way I'm keeping this in my light.

Harsh lighting Aug 02, 2008
By William Krause I find that it does have 3 true levels--I had to wait a little for the highest level to warm up.
The downside: it is has the ugliest, harshest light of any fluorescent I have seen. After 1 hour I went back to incandescent.
